Yamaichi Shoji achieves 100% recycling through one-stop service from course demolition to recycling of course materials after the skateboarding event “Uprising Tokyo Supported by Rakuten”

YAMAICHISHOJI, Inc. (HQ: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative: Daisuke Matsumoto; Yamaichi Shoji) provides 100% recycling through one-stop service from course demolition to recycling of course materials after “Uprising Tokyo Supported by Rakuten (Uprising Tokyo),” the skateboarding event hosted by Rakuten Group, Inc. (HQ: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, Chairman, President and CEO: Mickey Mikitani; Rakuten).

There is a general tendency for large-scale event projects to have a short time for dismantling buildings after the event, resulting in few cases where recycling or other environmental considerations are taken into account. To address these social issues, Yamaichi Shoji provides a one-stop service to handle the demolishing and waste disposal of buildings for Uprising Tokyo, thereby helping to make the event more environmentally friendly.

Uprising Tokyo is a new international skateboarding event hosted by Rakuten as part of its strategic partnership with professional skateboarder Yuto Horigome. Under its “Skateboarding for all” project vision, the event aims to grow the sport of skateboarding and its culture throughout Japan and the world. The event merges elements of entertainment and fashion to deliver a unique blend of skateboarding’s original culture, and Uprising Tokyo hopes to showcase the essence of what makes skateboarding great and bring value to its community by breaking down barriers.

Since January 2023, Yamaichi Shoji and Yuto Horigome have formed an environmental contribution partnership with the aim of promoting a sustainable skateboarding culture and environment on a global scale. To support Uprising Tokyo, Yamaichi Shoji has signed a sponsorship and construction contract with Rakuten to contribute to the sustainable environment.

Together with Rakuten, Yamaichi Shoji will use this initiative as a starting point to explore ways to realize holding and operating environmentally friendly events in the future.

Yamaichi Shoji has been operating under the corporate philosophy of “Saving the planet through waste.” Since its establishment, Yamaichi Shoji has been committed to its mission, purpose and basic principles of contributing to the construction of an advanced circular society. With over 40 years of business experience, expertise, assets and collaboration with various stakeholders and partners, our aim is to preserve the beautiful environment and pass it on to the next generation. In order to realize our corporate philosophy, there is a need to shift our perspective from “protecting the planet from waste” to “turning waste into the planet’s ally.”

To realize a sustainable and highly circular society, Yamaichi Shoji considers its business development itself as an effort towards achieving SDGs and aims to continue various initiatives together with its group businesses.
